Title:  Sociological and economic deer management concerns of Southeastern Game and Fish Administrators.
Author(s): Osborne, J. S. and C. W. Betsill

Abstract: A mail questionnaire was sent to the 16 Directors representing the member states of the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies to canvass concerns of these administrators regarding selected socioeconomic issues. The questions dealt with such topics as: (1) budget allocations for deer programs; (2) hunter behavior; (3) land leasing trends; (4) nonresident hunters; (5) quality deer management programs; (6) hunter satisfactions; and (7) management objectives and goals. A cover letter attached to each questionnaire requested that we receive an administrative reply. Responses to these inquiries will be summarized for study group participants. Following this, the administrative platform will be used to stimulate discussion by the audience and a panel of persons with expertise on the topics. The presentation concludes with an enumeration of problem or controversial deer issues the Directors would like for the Southeast Deer Study Group to address at future meetings.
