Abstract: Studies were conducted on south Texas ranches comparing 3 carrying capacity determination techniques for white-tailed deer (Qdocoileus virainianus). Techniques included monitoring weight losses of captive deer in 1 ha enclosures similar to the technique currently employed successfully by the Pennsylvania Game Commission, biomass and quality of deer forage, and physiological indices of condition. Studies were conducted in late summer 1986 and winter 1987 to gain insight into the limiting nature of these 2 periods in south Texas
